Antique Victorian Large Scenery Conch Shell Cameo Floral Brooch

Antique Victorian era shell cameo brooch with gilt floral frame. The brooch dates between 1840s to 1860s and features a beautifully carved woman sitting beneath a tree.

On of the most interesting aspects of this cameo is the way the artist followed the irregular shape of the shell, as it curves up from a slope at the top. The bezel was also crafted to fit this perfectly.

The shell is thin and translucent. Frame was done in a silver metal with gold gilt accents. It did not test as sterling but might be a lower grade silver (such as 800).

Very good condition, though the pin has a bend near the hinge from wear.
